Download Tor Browser 9.0.1 Last Update: The Ultimate Tool for Online Freedom and Activism

It means "download Tor Browser". (Also, TBB means "Tor Browser Bundle" which is technically the correct name and description of the combined package of tor.exe binary + browser application instead of simply the browser.) You asked good questions about other sites and censorship; I haven't seen them discussed. Users for whom this torproject.org website is censored are urged to use GetTor or a mirror.

Is this an issue that is new with version 9.0.1, or did you have it with previous versions too? Is it an issue that happens every time you open the browser, or only sometimes? Do you have the issue on other pages than about:tor?

Download Tor Browser 9.0.1 Last Update

ok, i surrender.i've copied an edited pref.js file into .../tor-browser_en-US/Browser/TorBrowser/Data/Browser/profile.defaultbefore firstrun of a TBB 9.0 and tried to disable 'check for updates' with this varying settings:

there is no update prompt anymore but still showing the'Update to 9.0.1' button in about:preferences and the best:it downloads (!) the update from somewhere even if ALL urls in about:config are deleted.

I'm not you(-: but i have the same problem. All updates within about:config are off but Torbrowser is phoning home in the same form to aus1.torproject.org .Phoning home is ALL unwanting automated connection, all unwanted automatic updating to a server/machine you don't want and you can't switch it off. Switch it off without tricks, without hack the programm. Try to switch off all phoning home -unwanted telemetry- in MicrosoftWindows10, and you know what i mean with phoning home, hardcore.Torbrowser/FirefoxESR should not going the same way. I am really not the only one who think so. A lot of professionals think so too, because its logic.

I need to know if you are going to produce a "Black Screen of Death" Fix.*BOTH* of my multi-user Development VMs have been hit by this poor QA update to v9.0.1Ironically preventing completion and release to the community of privacy related software.

It is the last straw for me; I have been concerned for some time at the egregious resource (CPU) demand at startupsuspicious that it is attempting rowhammer or spectre/meltdown class base processor games. All of my VMs, including Fresh Builds are equally affected. It is not some extension updatepoison that is responsible.

It not recommended to use ad-ons to the browser (I am using FF). Standard are HTTPS and NoScript. First time I tried one of my normal webb-sites I saw the site full of ads. NoScript showed zero (0) meaning full blocking when looking at presented scripts. Second time I used the 9.0.1 browser it started to stop ads (reading "connection disabled" in ads-areas). This time though the browser started to utilize much more cpu and not working well. When changing site-pages ads showed up here and there but not everywhere!

I'm downloading the ESR non-tor now but, I also have FF-nightly, and palemoon, and waterfox-portable, all of which have never shown this problem. But this is the second (*maybe* third) time an upgrade to TORbrowser causes it to ignore the "custom colors" option.

Last time, I was able to force it back to working by toggling several times between "always" & "never" in the options dialog window. But since this last upgrade I've re-downloaded, and also downloaded the alpha, and made a copy of the browser directory and deleted the original, then re-installed. Whatever is going on, is in my windows profile because it remembers the glitch across versions (downloaded 8.5.5, installed to the desktop, same problem despite being the version I was using) and across directories.

Many asynchronous encryption protocols depend on your system clock to be set to accurate time to determine when a key or signature was created, modified and if it is valid, expired, revoked, etc. In a word, it's metadata. This is true for browser TLS/SSL/HTTPS and keys in PGP/GPG. NTP is not usually encrypted, and that has interesting implications for all of those encryption systems that depend on NTP. It shouldn't be necessary to adjust the clock "faster"; just make sure your system time is set before using cryptography. Check your time-zone, and install system updates for time-zones if government laws change (daylight saving time) or if you travel to other countries. If your computer is more than 4 years old and not keeping the time after you reboot, check its CMOS battery that powers the real-time clock when the system is powered off. If you use the NTP Pool project (Debian and Ubuntu do), use a public pool or a secondary (stratum 2) server:

thanks for your respons gk, really appreaciate it because it made me go back to the outdated version that kept crasching. about the old version 8.5.5. it refuse to update from the browser. well the the update starts but then it refuse to launch the browser when the update is done. just wanted to let you know, there seem to be something hindering it from launching.

The width *is* letterboxed. You're describing a webpage that has not been coded with "responsive design" principles or was broken somehow. The formatting of the comments you're reading here on this blog, for example, is broken and ugly at the moment because of a security update to Drupal. Other times, raising Tor Browser's security level breaks some site's formatting because those sites depend on JavaScript or other technologies that allow invasive features, and TBB's higher security levels block those. Some sites contain HTML tables that restrict content to static widths that don't collapse gracefully when you decrease the browser's (any browser's) window width. Your issue exists in various forms across all browsers. In most cases, it's the fault of whoever designed the web page.

Old versions are here: -package-archive/torbrowser/8.5.5/But it will immediately attempt to update, so you have to quickly disable your network connection and turn off automatic updates in Preferences. Do not overwrite the version you're using now. Install it in a different folder or completely delete the version you're using now. Old versions are not recommended for normal usage and do not receive security patches. Use them at your own risk.

I am using a separate bundle for the few cases that I need clearnet. In the past I disabled proxying and Tor launcher addon (and a couple other things like circuit display, update checks, tor check, etc. but this was not strictly necessary) mostly via user.js. So for a fresh bundle I simply placed user.js in the appropriate directory and changed a few other things within the browser itself. I did this once and the settings persisted through each future run.

aus1.torproject.org is the updates server. The browser is checking if a new version is available. This is nothing new, it has been like this since Tor Browser started including an internal updater, several years ago.

I have windows 7 but latest tor update isn't working, "api-ms-win-ctr-convert-1-1-0.dll is missing, despite I downloaded it and put it in the right folder, tor doesn't work. What a disgrace, I was really happy with the earlier version.

Hi, Im trying to get my Tor browser working but it keeos giving me an error api-ms-win-core-timezone[1-1-0.dll missingiv tried downloading the dll files and it just creates a new error with another dll needed for download.

When using the Backports torbrowser-laucher package at Debian GNU/Linux 10, make sure you backup your user Library bookmarks list first, as they'll be erased during the automatic Tor Browser update process. To make and restore the bookmarks backup, follow these steps:

Usually the update is downloaded automatically in the background and then it prompts me to restart. But this time (9.0.1) I got a dialog with a "download update" button which just took me to the download page. Is something wrong with the updater?

Hello, usually I download the updates smoothly. In this 9.0.2 update, the screen stated "Something went wrong! Tor does not work...", etc., etc.,. So, instead of panicking, I went ahead and tried to access the current page. As with most of this evening's surfing, everything stalled and the constant tick-tock at the top of the page wouldn't load. Fed up, I took Tor off screen. I reloaded, and now I am here. So, does this mean I have a safe, okay Tor or do I need to download a new one? Please advise. Thank you.

Did what you left out give any specific technical information or numbers that could narrow down the issue? Which "current page"? What "tick-tock"? Do you mean the circular "loading" animation on tabs? The browser does not display a clock. I don't know if your system is "safe", but if there is no longer an issue with tor browser, that's good. If you want to download a new one, download it, export your bookmarks if you have any, delete the tor-browser folder, install the new one, and finally import your bookmarks. -to-verify-signature/

To be forced for, everytime i open TB or other browser action, that is crap and nothing else.Especially there is no need for to hide this -no automatic updates. The boring thing was the flood of "my so old Torbrowser version need no update ever" troll campaign to bore the developers and nudge them to hide this option.

I think I downloaded my Tor Browser (under another name) a few years back from the Guardian site. Still I really don't know (remember) how the updating was working until it was done via Google Play. I also have some apps from Fdroid. They show my Tor Browser with the latest update but their version-history seems a bit odd!

The easiest way to browse onion websites is to download Tor Browser. Tor Browser is almost the same as the popular Firefox web browser, but it has built-in support for Tor. Simply downloading Tor Browser will let you visit onion websites right away.
